The mouse Nero lives in Lisas room, the chickens Trick and Frida live in the barn next to the house. Their everyday life is determined by humans, just like that of many other animals: the dog Taya is coiffed, the cow 2831 is fed, the cat Lucy is stroked, the tigers and monkeys in the zoo are watched, the pig Rosalie is given a home on a life farm and the calf Maresciallo is slaughtered. The mouse Nero and the chicken Trick slowly grow old and die. Trick is taken to the carcass collection centre and Nero gets a small grave in the garden.
